A freight-only Ro-Ro vessel, the Caesarea Trader, operated by Danish shipping company DFDS, experienced a fire onboard while off the Isle of Wight on February 9. The UK-flagged ship was making its way to Portsmouth after departing from St Helier in Jersey when the fire broke out in the engine room around 15:45 local time.
Upon discovering the blaze, the crew swiftly initiated firefighting procedures and issued a distress call. The alert was promptly received by HM Coastguard, which activated a response.
In response to the emergency, a coastguard helicopter equipped with thermal imaging technology and a rescue boat from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the situation and provide assistance.
