Bibby Marine has initiated the construction of its first hybrid commissioning service operation vessel (e-CSOV) for the offshore wind sector, with the keel-laying ceremony held at Armon Shipyard in Vigo, Spain. During the event, CEO Jonathan Lewis embedded a coin from 1807, marking the company’s founding year, into the keel plates, symbolizing the start of the vessel’s construction.

Scheduled for commissioning in 2027, the vessel aims to significantly reduce emissions and fuel consumption, accommodating up to 120 personnel while providing zero-emission commissioning and operational support for offshore wind farms for extended periods. Lewis emphasized that this project reflects Bibby Marine’s commitment to sustainable practices, stating that they began work on zero-emissions vessels in 2019, long before it became mainstream.

Key partners in this innovative project include Kongsberg, which supplies the dynamic positioning and propulsion systems, Corvus Energy for battery solutions, and Wartsila for engine and propulsion technologies. This initiative underscores Bibby Marine’s dedication to advancing clean maritime solutions essential for the industry’s future.
