A Greek-operated oil tanker, the Shenlong Suezmax, has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that some commercial vessels continue to traverse this critical passage despite ongoing tensions related to the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran. The tanker, carrying Saudi crude from Ras Tanura to Mumbai, last updated its position on March 8. Meanwhile, hundreds of ships remain anchored near the strait, which is vital for global oil and gas flows, accounting for about 20% of total supply.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have declared the strait closed, threatening to target any vessels attempting to pass. Oil prices surged beyond $119 a barrel due to concerns over shipping disruptions and supply cuts from Gulf producers. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) emphasized the need for all parties to respect freedom of navigation, expressing serious concern over recent attacks on merchant vessels in the region.

Despite the risks, some ships, including Dynacom-managed vessels, have been navigating the strait, albeit with many turning off their tracking systems for safety. Maritime analysts suggest that while transit remains technically open, activity is reduced as companies adjust to the heightened security and insurance challenges.
