New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued a US yacht, ‘Sea Angel,’ and its two crew members after it became stranded in rough waters southeast of Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The distress alert was received from the US Consulate in Chennai on July 10 at 11:57 am, indicating that the yacht had become disabled due to a blown sail and an entangled propeller.

In response, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Port Blair swiftly activated the International Safety Net, alerting nearby vessels and implementing rescue protocols. The ICGS Rajveer was deployed at 2 pm to assist.

By 5:30 pm, the ICGS Rajveer reached the yacht, established communication with the crew, and conducted an assessment. Despite challenging conditions, both crew members—one American and one Turkish—were found safe and healthy.

The vessel was successfully towed and escorted to Campbell Bay, arriving at 8 am on July 11. This operation highlights the ICG’s commitment to maritime safety and rapid response capabilities.
