Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (IPMO) has entered into new contracts and memoranda of understanding with the private sector, totaling over 200 trillion rials (approximately $400 million), as announced by the Minister of Transport and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh. These agreements are in line with President Masoud Pezeshkian’s focus on enhancing the maritime economy and increasing port capacity to facilitate trade growth.

Sadegh highlighted that the IPMO has already finalized several contracts and cooperation agreements aimed at boosting port throughput, improving infrastructure, and upgrading existing facilities. In just the past few days, the organization has signed deals worth over 20 trillion tomans with private sector stakeholders, further demonstrating its commitment to enhancing maritime operations.

The agreements encompass various projects across key ports, including Chabahar, Amirabad, and Shahid Rajaee, as well as several others. Iran is actively seeking to increase private sector involvement in port development as part of broader initiatives to strengthen trade corridors, expand transit capacities, and mitigate reliance on public funding amid ongoing fiscal challenges. This strategic move is expected to significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth and trade efficiency.
