Sumitomo Corporation, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE), and NYK Bulkship (Asia) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study for a new ammonia bunkering vessel in Singapore. This initiative supports the development of the ammonia value chain, spearheaded by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Energy Market Authority (EMA).
The goal is to promote the use of low- or zero-carbon ammonia for power generation and marine fuels, thereby enhancing Singapore’s energy transition and maritime decarbonization efforts. In October 2025, MPA and EMA appointed a consortium led by Keppel Ltd. to advance the project, focusing on a sustainable ammonia solution for Jurong Island.
As a consortium member and the sole recipient of a Research and Innovation grant from MPA, Sumitomo Corporation will lead the FEED study. This initiative aims to establish the technical and commercial foundations necessary for the successful implementation of ammonia bunkering solutions in Singapore.
