Kongsberg recently announced its plans to merge its maritime-focused business unit, Kongsberg Digital, into Kongsberg Maritime. This move is aimed at better aligning the company’s portfolio with the evolving needs of customers and technological advancements in the maritime industry. The integration of these business units is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2025.
The business to be transferred from Kongsberg Digital to Kongsberg Maritime generated revenues of around $53 million in 2023 and involves approximately 500 employees across 14 countries. These employees will be transferred to Kongsberg Maritime upon completion of the transaction. Geir Håøy, President and CEO of Kongsberg, stated that by consolidating digital maritime initiatives within Kongsberg Maritime’s portfolio, they are optimizing their approach to the industry’s transition and reaffirming their commitment to leading the way in decarbonization and digitalization.
The transfer of maritime operations to Kongsberg Maritime will allow Kongsberg Digital to focus on advancing its digital twin, energy simulations, SiteCom, and its subsidiary FutureOn. Thomas Borgen, Chairman of Kongsberg Digital, emphasized the company’s strong customer base and leading market position in these areas. Moving forward, Kongsberg Digital will concentrate on developing its industrial work surface solutions to support various industries, with full support from the company’s Board of Directors.
