In a recent televised address, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysian vessels are now permitted to navigate the Strait of Hormuz, following discussions with leaders from Iran, Egypt, Turkey, and other regional nations. He expressed gratitude to Iran’s president for facilitating the passage of Malaysian ships.
Anwar stated that efforts are underway to release Malaysian oil tankers and their crews, enabling them to return home. He emphasized the challenges in fostering peace in the Middle East, noting Iran’s skepticism due to past grievances and its demand for clear security guarantees.
To address the impact of ongoing supply disruptions, Anwar confirmed that Malaysia will continue its oil price subsidies while adjusting monthly allocations of subsidized fuel. He acknowledged the significant effects of the blockade at the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing conflict on Malaysia’s energy supply.
The Prime Minister underscored the necessity of managing the situation as the nation grapples with the ramifications of halted oil and gas supplies.
