MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA), a collaboration between MOL and Magsaysay Maritime Corporation, recently received certification from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) as an “Authorized Seafarer Education Institution” under the JISS system. This recognition allows graduates of MMMA’s Bachelor of Science program in Maritime Transport and Maritime Engineering, who hold a maritime license from the Philippines, to bypass the MLIT examination requirement when boarding Japanese-flagged vessels as officers or engineers. The certification underscores MMMA’s adherence to MLIT’s stringent standards and signifies the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality maritime education.
The MOL Group is dedicated to training Filipino seafarers and nurturing skilled professionals to support the safe operation of its fleet. By focusing on education and skill development, the group aims to create opportunities for seafarers that contribute to the growth and development of individuals and communities. As part of its sustainability initiatives, MOL Group prioritizes the well-being of its workforce and upholds a safety-focused approach in its operations as a responsible player in the social infrastructure sector.
In 1997, MOL and MMC established Magsaysay MOL Marine Inc., an exclusive manning company for MOL in the Philippines. MMMA’s recent participation in the Maritime Schools Assessment Program (MSAP) organized by the Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council Inc. resulted in both the BSMT and BSME programs achieving second place nationwide. This achievement highlights MMMA’s commitment to excellence in maritime education and training, positioning it as a leading institution in the field.
