Maritime data specialist Windward has introduced a Maritime Intelligence Operations Center (MIOC), aimed at supporting defence agencies, commercial operators, and legal and insurance sectors grappling with increasing geopolitical and compliance challenges. This new facility is designed to provide real-time, high-quality maritime intelligence by integrating Windward’s proprietary Maritime AI platform with human analysts and diverse data sources.
The establishment of the MIOC comes at a time when the shipping and offshore industries are contending with stricter sanctions, grey-zone maritime activities, and heightened threats to subsea and port infrastructures. Operators are also inundated with satellite, AIS, and sensor data, which can be overwhelming in dynamic situations. Windward’s MIOC can function remotely or be embedded within client organizations, effectively serving as an extension of their existing teams. This operational model resembles global security centers in cyber and defense sectors, emphasizing proactive risk management over mere monitoring.
Central to this initiative is Windward’s AI engine, complemented by an “agentic” automation layer that conducts investigations and identifies anomalies. The system consolidates satellite imagery, radio frequency data, and other intelligence streams into a cohesive operational picture, significantly reducing decision-making time by up to 80%. The service will encompass various monitoring areas, including subsea infrastructure, illegal fishing detection, and legal incident reconstruction, available on a subscription basis or for targeted investigations.
CEO and co-founder Ami Daniel highlighted the goal of offering organizations clear operational insights in a fragmented risk landscape. Founded 15 years ago, Windward has established itself as a leader in AI-driven maritime risk intelligence, catering to government and commercial clients in shipping, energy, and finance. The launch of the MIOC signifies a strategic evolution, positioning the company more directly within the operational decision-making framework as demands for maritime security and compliance continue to escalate.
