On Thursday morning, a ferry in Norway, operated by Norled, overshot its berth and collided with an old building near the pier on Herfol Island. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM, prompting the temporary suspension of ferry services to the island. However, this suspension has since been lifted, and the notice is no longer available on the company’s website.

The ferry, named Ternen, failed to dock correctly, missing its unloading point and striking a retail store that was once the town’s post office. Initial reports suggested the ferry had run aground, but local police later confirmed the allision after an inspection prompted by media inquiries. Fortunately, the six passengers aboard the ferry were unharmed and disembarked safely.

Witnesses, including local mechanic Erik Wydahl, indicated that a technical issue may have caused the incident. Wydahl stated that the crew attempted to halt the ferry’s progress but were unable to slow down in time. The Hvalerferga route is a vital transport link for Herfol and surrounding islands in the Hvaler archipelago, offering free passenger transit and seasonal vehicle transport.
