Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding Group has successfully delivered the SG Lagoon, a Capesize bulk carrier with a deadweight tonnage of 210,141 DWT. The vessel was commissioned by the local shipping firm Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and is classified under NK standards.
This Japanese-flagged ship has been constructed in accordance with the Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers, enhancing its hull and cargo hold durability. The SG Lagoon measures 299.99 meters (984.22 feet) in length and 50 meters (160 feet) in width, boasting a gross tonnage of 110,690 and a service speed of 14 knots.
Notably, the SG Lagoon is a dual-fuel vessel, capable of operating on both heavy oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The innovative design features LNG fuel tanks positioned on the upper deck at the stern, enabling the ship to maintain a cargo capacity comparable to that of vessels powered solely by conventional heavy oil. This advancement highlights the growing trend in the shipping industry towards more environmentally friendly fuel options.
