As the oil rig and wind farm industries shift towards Asia, the Philippines and Japan are gearing up for a rising demand for dynamic positioning (DP) professionals. To address this need, MOL Maritex Co., Ltd. (Molmat), the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), and the Magsaysay Training Center (MTC) inaugurated a Dynamic Positioning Training Center on July 29, 2025, in Mariveles, Bataan.
Situated within the MAAP campus, the center boasts cutting-edge simulators from Kongsberg, a Norwegian tech firm known for enhancing safety and efficiency in complex maritime operations. The DP simulator mirrors the systems used on MOL vessels, allowing trainees to gain practical experience.
The training center aims to equip seafarers and engineers with the skills necessary for offshore wind power generation and specialized vessels in ocean development. It offers six accredited courses from the Nautical Institute. Vice Admiral Eduardo Ma R. Santos of MAAP emphasized the growing need for more DP professionals, particularly for European wind farms and oil rigs.
The collaboration among Molmat, MAAP, and MTC, formalized through a memorandum of agreement, is crucial for shaping the future of Filipino seafarers in offshore operations, ensuring the Philippines remains vital to the maritime industry’s evolving demands.
