The US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has approved the Premier Alliance Agreement (No. 201435) to come into effect on February 9, 2025. This agreement replaces THE Alliance but does not include Hapag-Lloyd, which has joined the Gemini Cooperation with Maersk. The Premier Alliance will involve Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), Ocean Network Express (ONE), and Yang Ming sharing vessels on trade routes between the US and Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Under the new arrangement, the cooperation between HMM, ONE, and Yang Ming will cover mainline services on key East-West trade routes such as Asia-North America West Coast, Asia-North America East Coast, Asia-Mediterranean, Asia-North Europe, and Asia-Middle East. The agreement was initially filed with the FMC on October 28, 2024, but its implementation was delayed after the commission requested additional information on November 5.
The Premier Alliance Agreement marks a significant shift in the maritime industry, with major players joining forces to enhance services and efficiency on crucial trade routes. By sharing vessels and collaborating on various trade lines, HMM, ONE, and Yang Ming aim to optimize their operations and better meet the demands of customers shipping goods between the US, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
