Container traffic at Denmark’s largest commercial port continues to soar, with remarkable growth recorded in July—over 45% more than the previous year, totaling 86,830 TEU (20-foot equivalent units). This marked the highest volume ever processed at the Port of Aarhus, where over 70% of Denmark’s containers pass.
The first half of 2025 saw an overall 13% increase in container traffic, largely due to Aarhus’s expanding network and its strategic significance in European shipping. The rise in cargo volume has, however, put pressure on port capacity, setting a new weekly record of 20,212 TEU in week 29.
Thomas Haunch Borch, CEO, acknowledged the ongoing growth trend, emphasizing that the increased volume demands high efficiency from terminal operators and port staff. Collaborative efforts are essential to manage this pressure while ensuring competitive operations that support Danish businesses.
In July alone, 53 container ships arrived in Aarhus, a 32% increase from the previous year. The cumulative container traffic for 2025 reached approximately 441,670 TEU, surpassing 2024’s total and highlighting the port’s dynamic growth amidst a changing geopolitical landscape.
