A man was discovered dead inside a sailboat that had washed ashore on Cepa Beach in Fuengirola. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been revealed, but witnesses mentioned that the boat had been drifting outside the harbour walls for several days, enduring strong winds and waves during recent rainstorms.
The sailboat, which had been adrift near the beach, broke free from its anchoring and started drifting towards the shore on Friday, November 15, around 4pm. The boat’s keel grazed the shallow sandy seafloor, causing it to rock violently and ultimately breaking the mast. Emergency services, including the National Police, Civil Guard, Local Police, Maritime Rescue, and firefighters, were called to the scene and found the lifeless body of the man inside the boat.
Images captured by a passerby and shared on the popular Facebook group ‘Fuengirola se queja’ show the dramatic moment when the mast snapped just before the boat reached the shore. Reports suggest that the deceased man, a 56-year-old German, showed no signs of violence. An autopsy is expected to provide more information on this maritime tragedy.
The autopsy will likely provide more details on the circumstances leading to the man’s death on the sailboat. The boat had been drifting for days before washing ashore, causing it to break apart as it approached the beach. Emergency services responded to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of the man inside. The incident has sparked curiosity and speculation among locals and authorities alike.
