Seventeen crew members are still missing after the cargo vessel MV Eternity C sank in the Red Sea, as confirmed by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday. DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac stated that the missing crew includes two fatalities previously reported by the Department of Foreign Affairs. However, the agency is working to verify the actual number of deaths amid conflicting media reports.

Cacdac noted that various outlets have reported differing fatality counts, ranging from three to four. He emphasized that the best information will come from the five rescued seafarers, who can provide clarity on the situation. The bulk carrier had a total of 22 crew members, including 21 Filipinos and one Indian national.

The five rescued individuals were found in the water by rescue teams. While details about them remain undisclosed for security reasons, Cacdac assured that they are safe and have not sustained serious injuries. He expressed hope to communicate with the seafarers soon. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the missing crew members.
