A ceremony in Umeå celebrated the completion of Stena Line’s acquisition of Wasaline, highlighting the strategic importance of robust transport links between Sweden and Finland. Swedish Infrastructure Minister Andreas Carlsson emphasized that reliable ferry traffic is essential for a competitive business environment and enhanced security. He joined Finnish Minister for European Affairs Joakim Strand, Stena Line owner Dan Sten Olsson, and CEO Niclas Mårtensson for the ribbon-cutting event.

Minister Strand underlined the significance of the Vaasa–Umeå ferry route for both regions. Stena Line announced the acquisition of NLC Ferry Oy/Wasaline on November 4, 2025, taking over the ferry service operations between Umeå and Vaasa. The transaction has received approval from the respective city councils and all necessary regulatory bodies. The vessel Aurora Botnia will remain under the ownership of the jointly owned company Kvarken Link.
