On December 30, an oil vessel was detained in Selangor’s waters for allegedly anchoring without permission. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) reported that the vessel was apprehended around 3:00 PM local time, approximately 0.9 nautical miles west of Port Klang, following a complaint from the Port Klang Authority.
During the inspection, it was revealed that the vessel was operated by a captain and four Indonesian crew members, aged between 21 and 59. While all crew members possessed valid identification, the captain was unable to present any documents authorizing the vessel to anchor.
In line with regulatory protocols, an arrest warrant was issued for the vessel, and the captain was taken to the Selangor State Maritime Headquarters for further investigation. The MMEA emphasized the importance of compliance with maritime regulations, urging shipping operators and vessel owners to seek permission before anchoring in Malaysian waters.
Authorities also encouraged the public and maritime community to report any suspicious activities at sea to the Selangor State maritime operations center or the Malaysian maritime operations center for prompt action.
