Ten Organizations Unite to Launch Maritime Simulation Project

Ten organizations have come together to launch a collaborative project named “Development of Integrated Simulation Platform for Sustainable and Competitive Maritime Industry,” which commenced on October 1, 2025. This initiative includes prominent participants such as MTI Co., Ltd. (part of the NYK Group), Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, JAMSTEC, Japan Marine United, MITSUI E&S, NMRI, Tsuneishi Akishima Laboratory, Osaka University, and Kyoto University. The project has been endorsed by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

The primary goal of this initiative is to develop high-performance next-generation vessels. Utilizing advanced digital solutions and precise atmospheric and ocean forecasting, the project aims to facilitate safe and stable navigation. This effort aligns with the Japanese government’s Key and Advanced Technology R&D through the Cross Community Collaboration Program (K Program), emphasizing innovation in maritime technology.

After thorough discussions with the program director and subcommittee members, the detailed research and development plan has been established. The focus will be on creating an integrated simulation platform designed to enhance sustainability, competitiveness, and safety within the maritime industry.

This collaboration marks a significant advancement in digital innovation and ship technology, positioning Japan’s maritime sector for future growth and efficiency.
