BANGKOK — Thailand’s Foreign Ministry has officially requested an apology from Iran following an incident in the Strait of Hormuz on March 11, where a Thai vessel was struck by a projectile. The attack resulted in a fire on board, compelling the crew to abandon the ship.
In response to the incident, the ministry is seeking clarification from Iran’s ambassador regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack. This inquiry aims to gather more information on the events that transpired.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have claimed responsibility, stating through the Tasnim news agency that the vessel was “fired upon by Iranian fighters.” This assertion has raised concerns and prompted Thailand to take diplomatic action.
The situation highlights escalating tensions in the region and underscores the need for accountability in maritime safety. As the Thai government navigates this diplomatic challenge, the call for an apology reflects the seriousness with which it regards the safety of its vessels and crew.
