UAE Solidifies Global Maritime Leadership with Strategic IMO Role

Dubai, UAE, December 9 (ANI/WAM): The UAE is enhancing its global maritime influence through ongoing initiatives and proposals within the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Over recent years, these efforts have led to significant decisions that bolster global maritime operations, establishing the UAE as a pivotal player in shaping the future of maritime transport.

The UAE has secured a seat on the IMO Council for five consecutive terms, marking it as the first Arab nation to achieve this in Category B. This accomplishment underscores the international community’s trust in the UAE’s leadership and reinforces its status as a maritime transport hub. The UAE has played a crucial role in advancing various decisions that are now integral to the global maritime framework, including the adoption of Arabic as a working language and the establishment of official holidays for Eid.

Additionally, the UAE has contributed to key legislative and regulatory decisions, such as the IMO Strategic Plan for 2024-2029 and the 2025 Port State Control standards. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs, emphasized that the UAE’s role in the IMO exemplifies its commitment to sustainable development and global economic competitiveness.

Mohammed Khamis Al Kaabi, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the IMO, highlighted that the nation’s achievements reflect a vision focused on collaboration, transparency, and the enhancement of maritime safety standards, while also supporting developing countries and fostering cooperation among Arab states.
