The United Kingdom is set to establish the Maritime Innovation Center, aimed at fostering advancements in the maritime sector while maintaining safety standards. Scheduled to commence operations in April 2026, this initiative will be managed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The Center will provide specialized support to ship operators, shipyards, startups, and technology developers, facilitating the introduction of innovative solutions into maritime operations.

Lars Lippuner, MCA’s director of UK client marine services, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance support for innovators in the maritime industry. The Center will play a crucial role in guiding innovators through the regulatory landscape, from the prototype stage to sea trials, ensuring they gather the necessary evidence to secure approvals under various regulatory frameworks.
