GustoMSC, a subsidiary of NOV, has secured contracts for the design and equipment supply of Hanwha Ocean’s new wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), based on the NG-16000X design, set for delivery in the second quarter of 2028. This vessel will be the fourth of its kind, following a U.S.-built unit and two others currently under construction.
The NG-16000X is tailored to support South Korea’s offshore wind initiatives, featuring enhanced lifting capacities, longer legs for deeper water operations, and preparations for alternative fuels like liquefied natural gas and ammonia. It will include the GustoMSC Rack & Pinion jacking system with a variable speed drive and regenerative power capabilities, alongside a 2,600-ton leg-encircling crane to meet future installation needs.
This contract aligns with Hanwha Ocean’s ambition to lead in the Korean offshore wind sector, aiming to support the government’s goal of developing 25 GW of wind capacity by 2035. Jesse Ko, Head of Business Development at Hanwha Ocean, emphasized the project’s significance for both domestic and international clean energy opportunities.
Marc Doorduin, Commercial Director at GustoMSC, expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration, highlighting Hanwha Ocean’s growing leadership in offshore wind development in Korea.
