The RMT union has achieved a significant victory in the maritime sector by securing pay increases of up to 37% for employees at the British Antarctic Survey. Following extensive negotiations with the employer, the union has established a new pay scale that benefits a large number of its members.

The pay raises vary between 10% and 37%, with many workers receiving an impressive 26% increase. In addition to these salary enhancements, the agreement includes specialist allowances and end-of-year performance bonuses for staff, further improving their overall compensation.

RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey expressed pride in the outcome, commending both the members and negotiators for their efforts. He emphasized the importance of this achievement, highlighting the substantial pay increases and the introduction of a new allowance system that recognizes the skills and experience of those involved with the British Antarctic Survey.
