The cargo vessel MV. Suryani Ladjoni encountered a leakage and began listing in the waters off Madura Island, Indonesia, on January 18. Fortunately, a prompt rescue operation by Indonesian Authorities ensured the safety of all 18 crew members on board. The vessel started taking on water at 06:00 LT after receiving a distress call from another ship, KM. Tanto Luas, reporting the leakage.
The captain of KM. Suryani Ladjoni sought assistance from KM. Palung Mas, detailing the extent of the leakage and the ship’s listing angle. Despite facing challenging weather conditions, KM. Palung Mas coordinated with the captain to safely evacuate the crew using liferafts. By 08:45 LT, all crew members, including the captain, were successfully transferred to KM. Palung Mas and taken to Teluk Lamong Port.
Following the incident, investigations are ongoing to determine any environmental impact and material losses. The crew of MV. Suryani Ladjoni has been handed over to their company for further assistance, while authorities are actively monitoring the situation to prevent similar incidents in the future. The successful rescue operation concluded without any casualties, highlighting the importance of swift action and coordination in maritime emergencies.
