The Busan Coast Guard in South Korea has detailed a violent incident involving three Vietnamese crew members aboard a cargo ship anchored offshore. The local District Court has issued arrest warrants for the trio, who face charges of assault, intimidation, and property damage. The Coast Guard intervened due to concerns that the situation could escalate into more serious crimes, including potential murder.
The events unfolded on November 9, when the cargo ship, registered in Panama, was docked near Gamcheon Port with a total of 15 Vietnamese crew members on board. The three individuals, identified as a deckmaster, helmsman, and crew leader, were reportedly drinking and singing in the crew mess when they engaged in a violent confrontation with another crew member. The attack involved physical assaults and threats with a weapon.
Following the captain’s report of the assault to the shipping company, it was decided that the three aggressors should be forcibly removed from the ship in Korea. However, upon learning of their impending discharge, they allegedly plotted to confront the captain, armed with fire axes and sledgehammers. They attempted to break into the captain’s cabin, threatening crew members in the process.
The captain alerted the ship’s agent, who then contacted the Coast Guard. The authorities boarded the vessel to restore order and detained the suspects, deeming their actions a serious threat to safety. The Coast Guard emphasized their commitment to addressing such violent incidents decisively to ensure maritime safety.
