On May 28, 2025, Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, inaugurated key development projects at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Gandhidham. The ceremony included notable attendees like MP Vinodbhai Chavda and DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh, underscoring a commitment to operational excellence and a seafarer-centric ecosystem aligned with international standards.
A primary highlight is the upcoming Seafarer Centre, designed to offer world-class amenities, including a lounge, medical room, gym, and recreational areas. This facility aims to create a rejuvenating environment for seafarers arriving at the port, significantly enhancing their experience.
Additionally, the port’s railway infrastructure will be extended by 750 meters to boost cargo transport efficiency, linking the port with Kutch Salt Junction and improving access to the Dedicated Freight Corridor.
A new telescopic gangway has also been installed, adhering to OCIMF safety standards for safer vessel access. Furthermore, a Fire Brigade Station within the operational zone aims to bolster emergency preparedness with essential resources for staff. These initiatives reflect DPA’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of seafarers as part of its broader vision for a resilient maritime sector.
