The Swedish Club, in partnership with Mental Health Support Solutions (MHSS), has released a guide aimed at enhancing relationships between seafarers and their families. Titled “Our Family and the Sea: A Check Your Pulse Wellbeing Guide for Seafarers and Their Loved Ones,” the publication offers practical insights into managing stress, improving communication, and supporting children’s emotional needs across various developmental stages.

The guide addresses the seafarer’s journey through departure, absence, and reunion, providing strategies for effective communication with children of all ages. It emphasizes the importance of making families feel informed and included, which can significantly contribute to a seafarer’s peace of mind while at sea, as noted by Lorraine Hager, Loss Prevention & Marketing Advisor at The Swedish Club.

Additionally, the guide covers best practices for emotional resilience in children, self-care for family members, and the mindful use of social media to foster connections. The 2024 SEAFiT Crew Survey highlights the critical role of reliable internet access, with 91% of seafarers stating it is essential for maintaining emotional ties with loved ones. This connectivity is increasingly recognized as vital for mental health and family relationships in the maritime industry.
