The International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) has partnered with the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) to enhance welfare support and research for Filipino seafarers. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the ISWAN–Philippines Bayanihan Seminar at Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central. The agreement reflects a mutual commitment to improve seafarer wellbeing, access to support services, and maritime research in the Philippines.

As part of this partnership, ISWAN and NMP will share anonymized helpline data to better understand the welfare needs of seafarers. The insights gained will be incorporated into NMP’s Philippine Maritime Manpower Factbook, thereby strengthening research and informing evidence-based policy recommendations.

The collaboration also aims to enhance the visibility of ISWAN’s helpline and welfare programs. NMP will integrate ISWAN’s resources into its communication platforms, and both organizations will collaborate on training sessions, welfare education initiatives, and advocacy campaigns.

The ceremonial signing was attended by key figures, including ISWAN–Philippines Country Manager Marville Cullen Espago, ISWAN Chair René Andersen, Trustee Michael Esplago, NMP Executive Director Victor A. del Rosario, and NMP Maritime Research and Development Division Head Elena M. Santos.
