SEATRADE Maritime Crew Connect Global recently held its 25th annual conference in the Philippines, recognizing the country as the world’s top provider of seafarers. The three-day event, which took place at Shangri-La The Fort in Manila from Nov. 12 to 14, 2024, brought together industry leaders and maritime officials to discuss key issues in the crewing sector.
The conference delved into various topics affecting seafarers, such as training, technology, recruitment, crew welfare, and the impact of digital advancements. It also addressed pressing issues like generational challenges, artificial intelligence, and LGBTQ inclusivity. The event featured suppliers offering recruitment, training, and technology solutions for attendees.
A highlight of the conference was the presentation of awards to industry leaders and innovators. Winners included Bound4Blue for Innovation and Adoption of Technology, Berge Bulk for Environmental Champion, and 88 Aces Maritime Services for Health and Wellbeing at Sea. Filipino ship captain Ruben Magallanes was honored as Seafarer of the Year, while Kitack Lim, former secretary general of the International Maritime Organization, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
