On March 25, 2026, the Myanmar Seafarers Federation (MSF) announced plans to conduct a survey aimed at understanding the experiences and needs of seafarers and their families regarding social development. This initiative will include a discussion on collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and seafarers’ employment agreements (SEA). The press conference took place at MSF’s office in Yangon, where they outlined the survey and talk scheduled for March 31.

Captain Soe Min Aung, chair of MSF, emphasized the importance of listening to seafarers’ voices to enhance services, training, and rights protection. He noted that as international maritime regulations evolve, it is crucial for Myanmar seafarers to be informed about their legal rights. The upcoming talk will focus on the terms and conditions related to CBA and SEA, ensuring that seafarers are well-equipped with knowledge.

The survey aims to gather insights into the sentiments of seafarers and their families regarding the Myanmar Department of Maritime Administration (DMA), SRPS companies, maritime training institutions, and seafarer unions. The data collected will be essential in advocating for improved employment contracts, quality training, and better protection of rights, ultimately contributing to the advancement of the maritime industry in Myanmar.
