On August 26, 2025, a ceremony was held at the Myanmar Seafarers Federation (MSF) office in Yangon to discuss the repatriation of Myanmar seafarers who had been illegally employed on fishing vessels. Captain Soe Min Aung, President of MSF, addressed issues surrounding seafarers, their overseas employment, and the concerns of their families.
During the event, four seafarers shared their experiences after being sent illegally to work on a fishing boat in Oman. They detailed their time abroad and the challenges they faced before returning home. These individuals were sent to Oman on August 12 and successfully repatriated just two weeks later.
The ceremony aimed to raise awareness about the risks associated with illegal employment in foreign waters and the importance of legal and safe job opportunities for seafarers. The MSF continues to advocate for the rights and welfare of Myanmar’s maritime workers, emphasizing the need for proper regulations and support systems.
This event highlights ongoing efforts to protect seafarers and ensure their safe return, reflecting the commitment of organizations like the MSF to address these critical issues.
