Six Filipino Seafarers from Houthi-Attacked Vessel Safely Return Home

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that six Filipino seafarers from the MV Magic Seas, which was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, have safely returned to the Philippines. Three crew members arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 around 4:30 p.m., while the remaining three landed at Clark International Airport at approximately 4 p.m.

To support the returning seafarers, the DMW, along with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), provided immediate assistance. Each seafarer received ₱75,000 from the DMW’s AKSYON Fund and OWWA’s Emergency Repatriation Fund, with an additional ₱10,000 from the DSWD.

The MV Magic Seas, a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier, was crewed by 17 Filipinos along with two foreign nationals, a Romanian and a Vietnamese. The DMW has reassured the public of the government’s commitment to support the reintegration of the affected seafarers and to offer further assistance as necessary.
