A Tanzanian national has been charged with importing 3kg of methamphetamine into Australia, appearing in Port Adelaide Magistrate’s Court. The investigation began on November 8 when a security officer from Flinders Ports conducted a random baggage inspection on the 50-year-old crew member as he was leaving for shore leave.

During the inspection, three suspicious packages containing a crystal-like substance were discovered in his backpack. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, prompting Australian Border Force (ABF) officers to notify the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

The AFP seized the packages and arrested the man, charging him with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug under section 307.1(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth). This offense carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
