Tripartite MoU Sealed to Advance India’s Maritime Workforce Skills

The Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS), Drydocks World, and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cultivate a skilled maritime workforce in India. This agreement was formalized during India Maritime Week 2025, with notable figures including Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, in attendance.

The partnership aims to establish India as a premier global hub for shipbuilding and repair professionals. By addressing skill gaps and aligning training with international standards, the initiative seeks to enhance job prospects for trainees both domestically and internationally. The annual programs will integrate theoretical and practical learning, utilizing advanced infrastructure available at CSL, CEMS, and Drydocks World facilities.

Capt. Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, emphasized that this initiative will bolster India’s maritime talent pipeline and contribute to the sustainable growth of the global shipbuilding industry. Mr. Madhu S Nair, CMD of Cochin Shipyard, noted that the collaboration will merge advanced training techniques with global industry standards to develop a proficient workforce for both local and international markets.

Mr. Arun Sharma, Chairman of CEMS, highlighted the program’s focus on offering hands-on, immersive training that equips young individuals with skills that meet global benchmarks. Through this collaboration, India aspires to cultivate a next-generation maritime workforce capable of meeting the increasing demands of the shipbuilding and repair sector, aligning with the objectives of Maritime India Vision 2030.
