WILHELMSEN Ships Service has launched its global safety campaign, AimZero, aimed at reducing hot work accidents, a significant risk in the maritime industry. Hot work tasks like welding and cutting are common for Filipino seafarers but pose serious dangers, leading to fires and explosions. The campaign emphasizes the need for better training, certified equipment, and a change in mindset to enhance onboard safety.

Chris Teoh, senior product manager at Wilhelmsen, highlights that the campaign focuses on empowering seafarers with the confidence and tools necessary for their safety. A new video, produced in collaboration with major maritime safety organizations, features personal stories from seafarers, illustrating how small safety improvements can save lives.

The campaign has garnered support from influential seafarers, reinforcing the message that safety is a collective responsibility onboard. Carl King, the creative lead, stresses that seafarers are vital to fostering a safer industry by being proactive in safety practices.

AimZero also promotes training through the Unitor Welding School, helping seafarers enhance their skills and safety knowledge. As the maritime sector increasingly prioritizes safety, Wilhelmsen aims to empower Filipino crew members to lead this change for a safer future at sea.
