During the Lamb of God Headbangers Boat charter cruise on the Norwegian Pearl, a guest went overboard in the early hours of November 3, 2023. The ship was sailing near the Bahamas on its way back to Miami, Florida. A search and rescue mission was initiated, but after nine hours, the Captain had to cancel the mission due to inclement weather and limited visibility. The vessel resumed its course to PortMiami. The Norwegian Pearl is a 93,530 gross tons cruise ship with a capacity of 2,394 guests.

Eyewitness Frank Godla, CEO of MetalSucks and Metal Injection, provided a detailed account of the incident. The ship made a sharp turn around 3:30 AM, and approximately 20 minutes later, the captain informed the passengers that a guest had gone overboard. The search continued for nine hours, but due to poor weather conditions, the mission was concluded and the ship resumed its course to Miami.

Despite the tragic event, guests onboard remained understanding and appreciated the actions taken by the ship’s crew and festival organization. Norwegian Cruise Line and the United States Coast Guard are working together to investigate the incident. Man-overboard situations unfortunately occur frequently, and while cruise ships have safety measures in place, the chances of surviving a fall from a cruise ship at open sea are slim.
