NLNG and OPTS Launch Marine Training Program for Oil Sector

NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Ltd (NSML) has partnered with OPTS to launch the Marine Accelerator Program (MAP) aimed at enhancing skills in the maritime and oil service sector. NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Ltd (NSML) has partnered with the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) to launch a training program aimed at bridging the skill gap in the maritime and oil service sector. The Marine Accelerator Program (MAP) will see 120 marine workforces undergo training at the NSML-owned Maritime Centre of Excellence (MCOE. This initiative, supported by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and Maersk Training, aims to enhance safety standards and prevent accidents in the industry.

Abdulkadir Ahmed, managing director of NSML, emphasized the importance of investing in maritime professionals to improve operational efficiency, meet regulatory requirements, and foster a culture of excellence. The training will focus on upskilling the existing workforce and developing capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas marine support sector. The program is designed to deliver cutting-edge training solutions and resources to create a highly skilled and agile maritime workforce.

The training, scheduled to run until November 2024, will involve batches of 45 delegates, totaling 120 participants. Gwueke Ajaifia, executive director of OPTS, highlighted the industry’s capital-intensive nature and the importance of building capacity to maintain investments. The program, funded by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), aims to improve competence and quality in the marine sector to attract more investments and ensure safety and sustainability.
