In December 2022, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK-Line) and Damen Services signed an agreement to introduce an advanced full mission bridge simulator for offshore wind operations. The simulator, developed in collaboration with VSTEP Simulation, completed Factory Acceptance Testing in October and is set to be inaugurated on April 1st at a new training center in Akita, Japan. The training programs offered at the center will focus on essential skills for maneuvering, crew supply, and maintenance in offshore wind parks, targeting technical personnel and workboat crews.

NYK-Line and Damen Services are not only providing cutting-edge training facilities but also actively contributing to offshore human resource development through collaborative initiatives with local governmental bodies and educational institutions. The strategic focus of the project is on expanding the offshore wind industry and ensuring a skilled workforce in the Asia-Pacific region. The simulator will also provide fleet owners with the opportunity to safely test and train their crews in various ship designs, including the Damen Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 2710.

The official opening of the Full Mission Bridge Simulator in Akita represents a significant advancement in raising standards for training and human resource development within the offshore wind sector in the Asia Pacific region. This initiative demonstrates NYK-Line’s commitment to excellence in the offshore wind sector and aligns with Damen Services’ dedication to delivering top-notch maritime solutions, with a focus on sustainability and workforce development.
