Ocean Group has announced a significant shift in its port towing operations by adopting HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) renewable diesel fuel. This environmentally-friendly fuel is made from renewable sources such as vegetable oils, plant or animal residues, and used oils from frying. By using HVO fuel, CO2 emissions can be reduced by approximately 80% compared to traditional fossil fuels.
Since 2023, Group Ocean has been conducting tests on the efficiency of HVO fuel at its Delta Port and Fraser River sites. After months of data analysis and obtaining the necessary approvals from Transport Canada, the company is now prepared to complete the transition to HVO by the end of 2024. Ultimately, all tugs operated by Ocean Group in British Columbia will be powered by HVO fuel, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.
The decision to switch to HVO fuel aligns with Ocean Group’s dedication to operating in an environmentally-conscious manner. By making this transition, the company is taking a proactive step towards reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future. This move highlights Ocean Group’s commitment to embracing innovative solutions that prioritize environmental responsibility in its operations.
