Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE) has signed shipbuilding contracts for the construction of twelve 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships. Six ships will be built by Jiangnan Shipyard and six by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, with all scheduled for delivery in 2027. This represents ONE’s first fleet of methanol dual-fuel vessels and aligns with the company’s Green Strategy for sustainability.
The ships are designed to be adaptable to ONE’s global network and aim to meet future changes in sustainable supply chains. Methanol is seen as a promising way to reduce emissions in the marine industry, and these ships will feature state-of-the-art technologies to improve fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. CEO Jeremy Nixon emphasized that this investment in methanol dual-fuel vessels supports ONE’s green strategy and is a critical step toward deploying ships using alternative fuels by 2030.
The goal of ONE’s Green Strategy is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, including Scope 2 and 3 emissions. The transition from conventional fuels to alternative fuels is a key pillar of this strategy, and the investment in methanol dual-fuel vessels aligns with ONE’s efforts for operational efficiency and green initiatives in the maritime industry.
