Kolkata Railway Station is an international railway station that handles two interdominium trains connecting Kolkata with Dhaka and Khulna. To facilitate such foreign passengers in obtaining visa services for trains bound for Bangladesh, the Visa Information and Application Center at Kolkata Railway Station has started operations, according to a press release released by Eastern Railway on Wednesday.
The project was conceived as part of the New Innovative Ideas program. The Visa Information Center provides information and other assistance to passengers boarding the Maitree and Bandhan Express trains.
The center will also assist visitors from Bangladesh in processing their visas.
The Bangladesh Visa Information Center was inaugurated by Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh Andalib Elias on Monday.
The Kolkata center will provide up-to-date information and facilitate and expedite the visa application process. Now visa applications can be made without prior appointment through walk-ins at the application centers in Salt Lake, Kolkata and Siliguri, the statement said.
The centers also offer a wide range of services, including completing visa application forms, taking photographs, passport collection and delivery, and more.
The center also helps passengers obtain visas at their doorstep and provides all the necessary information on the application process, which could otherwise be quite cumbersome. International passengers can easily obtain all visa-related information at Kolkata Railway Station while reserving seats on the two interdominion trains. This is also a significant step in strengthening India-Bangladesh ties, the statement said.
Aside from providing visa facilities for passengers bound for Bangladesh, the visa center is also expected to bring handsome income to the railway treasury, the statement said.
