US Wind, Inc., a Baltimore-based offshore wind energy development company, announced its plan to form a long-term partnership with Haizea Wind Group Management SL to develop Sparrows Point Steel, Maryland’s first permanent offshore wind facility in Baltimore County, Maryland manage and operate. The facility will be available to manufacture steel components for the US offshore wind industry, including monopiles and towers.

“The partnership between US Wind and Haizea to lead Sparrows Point Steel will create one of the world’s premier offshore wind assets,” said Jeffrey Grybowski, CEO of US Wind. “Sparrows Point Steel sits on nearly 100 acres of waterfront in Baltimore County and is poised to become the East Coast’s premier logistics and manufacturing shipyard for offshore wind turbines. Haizea’s extensive knowledge and expertise will solidify Maryland’s role as the center of offshore wind power production in the United States.”

Haizea Wind Group manufactures monopile foundations and towers for offshore wind farms around the world.

Sparrows Point Steel has the potential to become one of the largest offshore wind farms in the United States. Once constructed, the facility will have substantial shunting and storage areas, as well as substantial quay access and an adjacent dry dock.

The Sparrows Point site was once home to Bethlehem Steel when it was the largest steel manufacturing facility in the world. It has special historical significance for the United Steelworkers who will support fabrication operations there. US Wind’s MarWin and Momentum Wind projects will be among the first to source components from Sparrows Point Steel.
