The Green Automotive Hub is located at Queen Elizabeth II Dock in Eastham, within the Mersey cluster of Peel Ports.
The hub, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, will be situated on the River Mersey and cover an area of approximately 38,445m², adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal, also operated by the major British port group.
Expected to open in September 2023, the new hub will serve a twice-weekly freight route from the port of Vigo in Spain to Eastham. It is forecast to take 14,700 lorry journeys off the roads in the UK and mainland Europe each year, saving around 17.5 million kilometers of road travel. The Green Automotive Hub is the latest sustainable initiative from Peel Ports, which in 2021 announced its goal of becoming a net-zero port operator by 2040, ten years ahead of the UK Government’s target.
