Petronet plans to add 5 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity to its Dahej terminal by March 2025. During the financial year 2023-24, the Dahej terminal processed 865 trillion British thermal units (TBTU) of LNG, an increase from the 704 TBTU processed the previous year. The company also has 5MTPA capacity in Kochi and is working on establishing an LNG terminal at Gopalpur Port. The Kochi facility currently operates at 20% of its total capacity, but the upcoming Kochi-Bangalore pipeline is expected to boost capacity utilization significantly.

The project at Gopalpur Port is in its early stages and is anticipated to take at least three more years to be completed. Last December, Petronet secured binding deals with Gopalpur Ports for the construction of its first LNG terminal along India’s east coast. The addition of this terminal will further strengthen Petronet’s presence in the LNG market in India and enhance the country’s energy infrastructure.

With the growth in LNG consumption and the strategic expansion of its terminals, Petronet is poised for continued success in the energy sector. The company’s focus on increasing capacity at its terminals, including Dahej and upcoming projects like Gopalpur Port, showcases its commitment to meeting the rising demand for clean energy sources in India. As the Kochi-Bangalore pipeline becomes operational, Petronet’s capacity utilization is expected to improve significantly, further solidifying its position as a key player in the LNG market.
