Port Angeles, Washington shipyard Platypus Marine has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen for the construction of a new crew transfer vessel (CTV) qualified under the Jones Act and serving the US -To serve the offshore wind industry. The agreement includes the design license and the material package.
The ship that Platypus will build to specification will be of Damen’s FCS 2710 design. The 26.8 meter long aluminum catamaran has already proven itself on the European market.
A large fleet of Jones Act compliant CTVs are needed to support the construction and maintenance of the United States’ growing offshore wind industry. To date, three US-built CTVs are currently in service and more than 20 more vessels are known to be on order.
