The Japanese cruise ship market is experiencing growth with the announcement of a new luxury mega-yacht cruise ship being ordered by Ryobi Holdings. The company, known for its operations in transportation and tourism, plans to offer a unique cruise experience, including visits to remote islands on a small boat. The ship will feature a marina for water activities, a first for the Japanese market, and will accommodate 120 passengers and 100 crew members. It is scheduled for delivery in 2027 from the Viana do Castelo shipyard in Portugal.

This expansion in the Japanese cruise market comes as NYK and Mitsui O.S.K. have made new investments, and niche operators like Peace Boat have added new cruise ships. MOL is also planning to introduce new features to its cruise ships, acquired from Carnival Corporation’s Seabourn Cruises, to cater to the growing leisure travel market in Japan. The resurgence in the Japanese cruise market aligns with the global trend of modern mega-yacht style luxury cruise ships, with companies like Scenic Cruises and Emerald Cruises also building similar ships.

The new Japanese cruise ship by Ryobi Holdings reflects the growing interest in luxury cruise experiences in Japan and southwest Asia. With the expansion of the cruise market in Japan, the country is becoming an increasingly important market for leisure travel, attracting investments from both domestic and international cruise operators.
