Princess Cruises cruise ship Ruby Princess was forced to make two ports of call during its 7-day Western Caribbean cruise that departed on April 2.

The ship experienced inclement weather, forcing the ship’s captain to decide not to spend the day in Roatan, Honduras, or Costa Maya, Mexico. Since only three port calls are scheduled during the voyage, guests lost the majority of calls on this voyage.

Ruby Princess Hit Bad Weather

Adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and high waves, forced Ruby Princess to bypass two of his planned ports. The Crown-class cruise ship, scheduled to dock in Roatan, Honduras on April 5, experienced winds of up to 60 miles per hour, making docking in port impossible. Instead of this, Ruby Princess spent the day at sea.

The bad weather continued Ruby Princess As she approached the next scheduled port, Costa Maya, Mexicoon April 6th. Passengers had expected to spend the day in Costa Maya, but waves of up to 6 feet made it unsafe for the cruise ship to dock.

The ship’s captain bypassed Costa Maya and headed straight to Cozumel, Mexico. Since the distance between Costa Maya and Cozumel is relatively small, the inclement weather has given guests a chance to experience Cozumel’s nightlife.

Ruby Princess will return to its homeport in Galveston, Texas on April 9, according to the original schedule. The cruise line has just two more cruises scheduled from Galveston this season.

Ruby Princess is just one of the Princess cruise ships to have experienced inclement weather this week. Majestic Princess was forced to cancel two port calls during their cruise from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand.
