Rizhao port in Shandong province has won approval to build a LNG berth to optimise its liquified natural gas transportation services.

The new 150,000-ton class LNG berth and supporting terminal facilities are located in the northern operational area of the Lanshan port area, where space is reserved for another LNG berth.

The construction of the new berth will accelerate the development of Rizhao Port into a regional energy hub in north China and help Shandong Province to improve the coastal LNG storage and transportation system.

Approved by the Ministry of Transport and Shandong Provincial Government, Rizhao Port is being developed as a hub for the transportation of coal, iron ore, crude oil and containers. It will build a total of seven operational areas with 274 productive berths.

Last year, cargo throughput at the port of Rizhao exceeded 500 million tons, which also became one of the top ten domestic container throughput ports.
